Beenleigh War Memorial Project flyer
The Beenleigh War Memorial was officially unveiled in November 1925. There were 61 names recorded on the monument, these were men who served in the AIF in WWI. Originally located in the centre of Beenleigh, the memorial has been moved to the corner of James and Crete Streets, outside the Beenleigh Library.
Research began on the Beenleigh War Memorial names prior to the centenary of the start of WWI. In 2009, the Society released a CD on this project.
More research has been carried out since then and more names have been added to the list. Not all of them are from Beenleigh, some are from surrounding areas.
We are pleased to announce that this project has now been completed and this revised edition has been published in digital form. The project has been produced as a series of short biographies which tell of the day-to-day lives of the one woman and 233 men who volunteered to serve during WWI. It does not focus on the battles and battalions which have been covered well elsewhere.

The short published stories are only a small part of the project. All the research notes and images have been kept, it's a huge resource. If you would like to know more about your WW1 volunteer or their family, come into the rooms and look at the files. Non-members are charged a research fee of $10 per day (photocopies extra).
